The clinical features are described of four female patients who suffered from primary thrombosis of the axillary‐subclavian veins. Possible precipitating factors were the taking of oral contraceptive medication by two patients and the use of a slimming wheel by a third patient. The clinical features were sufficient to establish the diagnosis in all four patients, but both ultrasound and phlebography were useful confirmatory techniques. Two patients have residual symptoms despite treatment with heparin.
