The psychological problems of students are discussed both in general and as presenting patients to a university health service. Disorders may be grouped Into three categories: problems with study, difficulties in interpersonal relationships, and sexual problems. It is likely that about 5% of students have psychological disorders which cause serious distress, and that a further 10% to 20% have disorders which may need skilled help. However, it seems that the maintenance and promotion of health and the treatment of Illness are not matters of high priority to university staff.
