The purpose of this paper is: (i) to record the establishment of a diagnostic and remedial centre offering specialist attention to the problems of reading within a district hospital, or more significantly, within the rehabilitation centre of a hospital located in an isolated country district; (ii) to record, and consider, the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary approach to the assessment of reading difficulties; (iii) to examine some of the results of the multidisciplinary assessment made; (iv) to review the difficulties encountered and to consider future plans. We would hope that our experience may benefit others who may be considering a similar development.
