A simplified technique for the quantitative estimation of bacteria in urine from antenatal patients is described. There were 1,863 patients, among whom 101 were found to have significant bacteriuria, and several methods of colony counting are compared. The dip‐slide technique was the most reliable method of detecting bacteriuria, and was used at out‐patient clinics and in the laboratory with general acceptance.
