The combination of trimethoprim and sulphonamides was found very effective in the treatment of acute urethral gonorrhoea in males; only one patient out of 91 failed to respond. This is a good alternative for patients who are hypersensitive to penicillin or who have failed to respond to penicillin treatment. The semi‐synthetic antibiotic rifampicin was less successful; 15 out of 111 patients failed to respond.
