Immunoelectroosmophoresis screening of 52,893 Queensland Red Cross blood donors for Australia antigen has revealed an incidence of 0.07%. A positive finding appears to be more likely in men than in women. There was no significant correlation with age of the donor (minimum age, 18 years). The method is rapid and convenient, facilitating the testing of large numbers of blood samples on the day of collection.
