The results of direct‐vision gastric biopsy in 200 consecutive cases are reported. There were 24 patients with neoplastic lesions, an incidence of 12%. Only one false‐negative result was encountered in this group, the diagnostic accuracy thus being 95.8%. In 174 cases in the non‐malignant group, there were no false‐positive results—a diagnostic correlation of 100%. The examination was undertaken essentially as an out‐patient procedure; no complications were encountered.
