An experimental out‐patient operating theatre is described which was designed for dental treatment under general anaesthesia. The anaesthetic technique consisted of intravenous induction with propanidid or inhalation induction with nitrous oxide, halothane, oxygen mixture. The results of treatment of the first 2,000 patients are described and show that this technique can be used safely as an out‐patient procedure producing good operating conditions for the surgeon with minimum hazard to the patient. The success of the unit can be measured by the demand for treatment by the patients who have come from all parts of the State of Western Australia, many travelling more than a thousand miles for treatment. Forty‐three dental surgeons have made regular use of the facilities.
