The type and frequency of changes seen in the ECG's of patients with hyperthryroidism and with no obvious cardiac disease has remained a source of controversy. In this study ECG's were recorded for 50 unselected, consecutive patients when they were overtly hyperthyroid, and were subsequently repeated when they had become euthyroid after treatment. The various changes seen in both the hyperthyroid and the euthyroid phase were compared by a paired “t” test, and their significance is discussed in this paper.
