The anatomy, physiology and pathology of the extracranial cerebral arteries are outlined. The syndromes typical of specific lesions are described, and the tendency of patients with transient ischæmlc attacks or transient monocular blindness to suffer permanent stroke or blindness is emphasized. The role of surgical reconstruction of the extracranial arteries is mentioned.
