A new perfusate (solution C3) was applied to the hypothermic preservation of human cadaveric kidneys before transplantation, with excellent results. Twelve of the kidneys so preserved with storage times up to 9 hours 27 minutes manifested immediate adequate function, avoiding the need for post‐transplant dialysis. Two kidneys stored for longer than 12 hours suffered acute tubular necrosis, as did four others in which buffered Hartmann's solution was used as the perfusate.
