A trial of a rating scale to predict success or failure in return to work for patients with ischæmic heart disease is described. The scale was found to have good reliability, and is easy to apply. It should be of use in the rapid identification, in or out of hospital, of the patient likely to encounter more than usually troublesome problems in returning to normal living and work, and in directing rehabilitation resources to those who need them most, early in their disease.
