The use of a package computer programme in the analysis of data obtained from patients with acute myocardial infarction is described. The survey analysis programme was designed for commercial market research, but its flexibility has enabled correlations, percentages, and means to be presented in the form of tables with appropriate headings suitable for clinical assessment. A charge was made for the use of the programme, but overall programming costs are moderate, because the greatly abbreviated programme statements could be written quickly and simply, avoiding the inevitable costly errors of standard programming techniques. It is suggested that use of package programmes such as this may be useful in data‐processing problems in clinical research.
