One hundred and five strains of mycobacteria isolated from house‐dust are identified with the aid of biochemical tests. It is found that more than half the strains belong to a group which is frequently implicated in tuberculosis‐like disease in man. These findings give more credence to the suggestion that our environment may be the source of disease‐associated strains of atypical mycobacteria.
