Both methaqualone and methaqualone‐diphen‐hydramlne combination were found to produce a number of side effects: epistaxis, menstrual disturbance, tongue changes, dryness of the mouth, depersonalization, constipation and cracking at the angles of the mouth. No related biochemical abnormality was detected. Of a selected population, 12·1% had an epistaxis and 8·1% a menstrual disturbance, and of those aged under 30 years, one in four had an epistaxis.
