The results of an analysis of deaths from lung cancer occurring in Australia over the five‐year period 1962 to 1966, inclusive, are presented. Death rates in immigrants born in Scotland, England and Wales are higher than those among native‐born Australians. Within the immigrant group from England and Wales, the rates are higher the later the age of immigration to Australia. Such evidence strongly suggests the effect of an external environmental agent, such as air pollution, as an important ætiological agent in the genesis of this disease.
