Methæmoglobin levels ranging from 0% to 18% of the total hæmoglobin content were observed in 55 young men receiving primaquine and chloroquine in the usual dosages, given after return from South‐East Asia. In 10 subjects studied throughout the course of treatment, an inverse relationship was observed between the initial reticulocyte counts and the degrees of methæmoglobinasmia. The practical implications of these findings are discussed.
