Australia antigen was detected in 6·6% of 436 cases of acute viral hepatitis seen over an eight‐month period at Fairfield Hospital for Communicable Diseases, Melbourne. The incidence is lower than has been found in some centres in the United States, but is similar to that described in recent reports from Scotland and the north of England.
