A case of spontaneous, occult rupture of a normal spleen is reported. Attention is drawn to the now well‐defined syndrome of occult rupture of the spleen as distinct from acute and delayed or secondary rupture of the spleen. The diagnostic features and the pathognomonic confirmation of the diagnosis by selective angiography are stressed. The criteria for the diagnosis of spontaneous rupture of a normal spleen are also discussed.
