Information on a randomly selected group of schoolchildren aged between 6 and 11 years from a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, revealed 11·2% who had two or more attacks of wheezing per year. This incidence of attacks of wheezing is greater than documented levels over the whole State. Children who wheezed excessively also had an excessive incidence of sore throats or tonsillitis. The relevance of these findings is discussed.
