A patient with scleroderma had diffuse hæmorrhagic gastritis with mucosal atrophy; persistent gastric hæmorrhage necessitated the transfusion of 20 pints of blood in one year. Prednisolone temporarily slowed the rate of blood loss. The gastritis appeared to result from involvement of the submucosal arteries of the stomach in a widespread vasculitis.
