Some theoretical and practical therapeutic implications arising from the percutaneous absorption of corticosteroid in infancy and childhood are considered, with particular reference to the use of betamethasone 17‐valerate. It is suggested that some topical corticosteroids may be unnecessarily strong for routine use.
