Four hundred and twenty‐five patients admitted to the Orthopaedic Department at Royal Perth Hospital were screened for bacteriuria using a dipslide culture technique. Approximately 6% of these patients entered the hospital with significant bacteriuria. The role of the dipslide as a simple, cheap and reliable screening technique is considered.
