Pyrantel embonate (“Combantrin”) is a new synthetic anthelmintic drug effective in the treatment of enterobiasis. In a comparative study against viprynium embonate in 100 patients with threadworm infestation a cure rate of 94% was achieved with a single dose of pyrantel embonate and 70% with a single dose of viprynium embonate. Pyrantel embonate is the better tolerated of the two drugs, is free of toxic effects and does not stain.
