A case is made for the reduction of the undergraduate medical course from six years to five years. It is believed this would stimulate the proper organization of a two‐year pre‐registration course. It could be achieved, provided there was acceptance that the undergraduate student should be educated more broadly, and provided there was a departure from the traditional university‐year course structure.
