Twenty severely affected asthmatic children, of an average age of nine and a half years, were treated with disodium cromoglycate for an average period of 12 months. All but one patient improved, and half the patients showed catch‐up growth. School absence was reduced to less than one‐third. All patients previously unable to play sport were able to do so during treatment. Steroid requirement was reduced in nine out of ten cases. Clinical improvement was greater than functional improvement assessed splrometrically.
