Cyproheptadine has been compared with a multi‐B vitamin preparation in its effects on appetite stimulation, weight gain and linear growth in a group of small children. During a three‐month course of cyproheptadine, weight gain was 559% of normal and linear growth 215% of normal, both being significantly greater than the corresponding changes seen in children given a multi‐B vitamin preparation. The effect of cyproheptadine on appetite stimulation and possible mechanisms of action are discussed.
