Plasma salicylate levels were measured In rheumatoid arthritic patients receiving equivalent therapeutic régimes of an aspirln/sustained release aspirin combination (“Bl‐Prln”), aloxiprin, soluble calcium aspirin and enteric‐coated sodium salicylate. Some salicylate levels obtained with aloxiprin were significantly less than those obtained with the other preparations. Twice‐daily dosage with “Bl‐Prln” did not give higher or better sustained plasma salicylate levels than four‐times‐daily dosage with other preparations. Wide variations in individual plasma salicylate levels were seen. These suggested the need to monitor these levels during salicylate therapy for rheumatoid arthritis.
