A comparison was made of the Drager Assistor 641 and the Bird Mark 7 Ventilator, using a simulated lung. The Assistor is capable of producing a much higher inflating pressure than the Bird Ventilator. The attendant has more control over the oxygen concentration delivered by the Assistor, and the concentration remains fairly steady over a wide range of clinical conditions. The Assistor has a lower peak inspiratory flow rate than the Bird Ventilator, and some problems may be encountered In a particular group of patients who require assisted ventilation.
