The design and management of a combined coronary and respiratory‐care unit are described, it is emphasized that the combination of the two disciplines Is not only practicable but desirable, since the separation of cardiac and pulmonary care is artificial and unrealistic. Recommendations are made on the designing and staffing of respiratory and coronary care units. A brief outline of the first 1,600 patients treated is given.
