Cholesteric liquid crystals, encapsulated on to black “Mylar” sheeting, were used to map out the thermographic patterns In cardlo‐pulmonary disease. In eight of 10 patients with pulmonary thromboembolism, three patients with pulmonary fibrosis, and one patient with a large cavity, the skin over the affected pulmonary segments was excessively cool. In six of seven patients with active infection and four patients with carcinoma of the lung, the overlying skin was excessively warm. Seventeen of 20 patients examined during an episode of angina pectoris or the pain of myocardial infarction had areas of skin coolness over or adjacent to the localization of the pain. Five patients with acute pericarditis had excessively hot precordial skin.
