Antibody titres to the infecting organism were estimated in 77 cases of asymptomatic bacteriuria of pregnancy. Although a wide range of values was found, no correlation between high or low titre and weights of infants born could be established. However, it was found that over 50% of women with high hæmagglutination titres were also found to have evidence of chronic pyelonephritis on pyelographic studies in the puerperium. This work confirms that previously performed by Brumfitt and Percival (1964) and Ronald and Turck (1967) that antibody titres may be of value in differentiating chronic renal infection from cases of lower urinary tract infection, but are of no immediate value in prognosticating the outcome of pregnancy.
