A review of over 700 patients admitted to hospital with a diagnosis of portal hypertension revealed that 72 had portal vein thrombosis with a normal liver. An investigation into this condition has been undertaken and the late results of treatment are now presented. A scheme of management is proposed for these patients presenting with bleeding œsophageal varices.
