Frusemide was given as a routine by the intravenous route to 50 patients with recent myocardial infarction. Frusemide effectively reverted left heart failure in 80% of cases, without the use of digitalis. Frusemide administration was not followed by hypotension, arrhythmias, hypokalæmia or other adverse hæmodynamic changes. In view of the very low mortality, it is suggested that the intravenous administration of frusemide as a routine after recent myocardial infarction deserves further trial.
