The term pseudomyxoma was introduced by Werth in 1884 to describe a tumour producing pseudomucus. Pseudomyxoma peritonei is an uncommon condition, and was first described in association with the appendix at autopsy by Fraenkel in 1901. The condition is found after rupture of a mucocele of the appendix. Other conditions associated with pseudomyxoma peritonei are ovarian cysts, urachal cysts, and mucus‐secreting grade 1 adenocarcinomas of the gastro‐intestinal tract. Considering the unusual nature of the condition, as well as its varied course, and the multiplicity of treatments suggested in the literature, it seems worthwhile to report the following case.
