The Flying Surgeon Service of Queensland is described and its origin explained. The surgeon and anæsthetist are flown to 20 country hospitals in inland Queensland in a plane which is held on charter by the Queensland State Government for the exclusive use of the Service. The scope of routine and emergency surgery is explained and the difficulties are mentioned. The unusual idea of bringing the specialist to the patient is discussed.
