A trial was conducted of a new type of oral contraceptive; 610 women were studied over a period of 46 months, for a total of 13,328 cycles. The therapy consisted of ethinyl œstradiol, 0.1 mg, plus megestrol acetate, 0.1 mg, for 16 days, commencing on the third day of the cycle, followed by ethinyl œstradiol, 0.1 mg, plus megestrol acetate, 1 mg, for seven days; in order to secure regular withdrawal bleeding, five placebo tablets were then taken. Twenty‐eight tablets were taken in each cycle, of which twenty‐three contained active ingredients. No pregnancies occurred and the cycle control was excellent.
