A description is given of what is believed to be the first published case of platinosis in Australia, characterized by attacks of an acute facial eruption, after exposure to platinum refining, with subsidence after cessation of exposure, on three occasions. A brief review of the literature indicates that the condition is almost always due to exposure of a sensitized individual to complex soluble platinum salts (chloroplatinates) in a platinum refinery, and complete remission occurs with cessation of exposure. The clinical features of this case correspond well with those noted overseas in the U.S.A., France and the United Kingdom.
