Combinations of sulphonamide and trimethoprim were tested for antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas pseudomalleii, causative organism of melioidosis, and Nocardia asteroides and N. braziliensis, in vitro, by various methods. The two antibiotics together mutually enhanced their inhibition of both species of organisms. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of both drugs were reduced manyfold, and the inhibition was bacteriostatic. The overall result suggests the possibility of a suitable treatment for these diseases.
