A programme of training patients for self‐supervised maintenance hæmodialysis in the home is outlined and illustrated by its application to three patients. The main features of the scheme are: Initiation of treatment before uræmia is too severe; Insertion of an arterio‐venous fistula, and repeated puncture of the arterialized veins for access to the circulation; dally dialysis throughout the training period of five weeks; and loan by the dialysis unit to the patient of a safe, reliable, and easily operated artificial kidney.
