Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease involving many organs. It is likely that hyperthyroidism is also an autoimmune disease. It is not uncommon for more than one autoimmune disease to occur in an Individual, and it is therefore surprising to find that the coexistence of the two diseases has rarely been described. The case of a Malay housewife, aged 54 years, who had hyperthyroidism and systemic lupus erythematosus is described, and the relationship between the two diseases is discussed.
