Five cases of specific learning difficulties occurring in children with intractable asthma at home are reported. The children have responded well to care in Margaret Reid Asthma Centre. The specific learning difficulty was not detected until a marked discrepancy was shown between the verbal and performance I.Q., and further testing was done. This suggests that the stress caused in these children by the school situation may contribute to the difficulty in controlling their asthma.
