An understanding of the biochemical changes brought about by the fibrinolytic activator, streptokinase, is basic to the rational use of this drug. Streptokinase has been shown to be an effective agent in the treatment of a number of thromboembolic diseases, and a predictable and safe fibrinolytic state may be monitored with a minimum of laboratory tests.
