A group of epileptic patients employed in a sheltered workshop was reviewed. The aim was to assess the reaction of the patient and of his family to this type of environment. In this way, inferences may be drawn regarding some of the problems facing these patients. The common theme was being amongst people with similar problems, and a sense of security and satisfaction with the work. Feelings of insecurity and a sense of being different from others seemed to be amongst the major problems. Further studies to elucidate the pathogenesis of such problems would be required, and at times early admission to a sheltered environment may be helpful.
