A premature infant, born at 26 weeks' gestation, was found at the age of 14 weeks to have radiological changes consistent with rickets, and multiple healing fractures of the ribs. The case history is presented. Rickets and traumatic bone damage in premature infants and the vitamin D requirements of premature infants are discussed, and some implications of the vitamin D content of human milk are considered.
