I have been asked to talk today about medical ethics and the law in relation to the medical administrator. In dealing with this often rather esoteric subject, I shall endeavour to define the meaning of ethics and to describe the kinds of ethical conflicts that may occur. I shall briefly summarize the various philosophical categories of ethics and consider some of the ethics that apply to an administrator. I conclude with a brief word about some ethico‐legal problems likely to be encountered by a medical administrator.
