Bupivacaine 0.25%, with two strengths of adrenaline, has been compared with lignocaine 1% with adrenaline in a double‐blind study on patients in labour. The duration of action was the only property in which significant differences between the agents were observed. The time from injection until uterine contractions were again felt was, on the average, approximately three and a half hours for bupivacaine and two hours for lignocaine, both containing adrenaline 1: 200,000.
