J. S. LAWSON. The sign described is readily detected and is important. If sought, it is frequently found. In the Thyroid Clinic at the Launceston General Hospital, this sign has been demonstrated to postgraduate staff and visitors for many years. It is probably even more common than Plummer's nails. In many cases it occurs unaccompanied by the moist skin, and sometimes even the warmth, more commonly described. Like so many signs, it is not new. Pitt-Rivers and Trotter" mention the thinning of mammalian epidermis seen after thyroid treatment. They point out the curious fact that the reverse happens in other species.
