An epidemiological study has been carried out on 64 male and female patients attending the Brisbane State Health Department clinics over a 15‐month period. The notified incidence of syphilis has remained constant at between eight and nine per 100,000 per year for the past five years. The clinical and sociological background of the patients has been analysed, and the high incidence of infectious syphilis and the lower occupational status of the patients are noted.
