The distribution of hereditary nephritis with deafness in a Western Australian family has been traced by urinalysis and identification of serum proteins in the urine by Immunoelectrophoresis. The inheritance pattern is compatible with X‐chromosomal transmission. The findings from renal biopsy of an affected female and post‐mortem material from two affected males demonstrate a mixed membranous and proliferative chronic glomerulonephritis. The post‐mortem appearance of the cochlea in an affected male did not show any significant lesion.
